Mini-Con Kickoff Event @ Mendenhall Library — 5pm Snacks & 6pm Variety Show
Join us at the Mendenhall Valley Library as we introduce several of our visiting guests through a musical variety show. The family friendly event features short presentations, readings and music. It’s a delight.

2pm – 4pm ~ Dylan Meconis will be doing a limited number of tiny watercolor pet portraits and original character sketches at the Alaska Robotics Booth.

It’s Independent Bookstore Day! @ Hearthside Books Booth
2:00pm – 3:00pm ~ Get Your Portrait Drawn by Raina!
Raina Telgemeier will be drawing portraits for 20 bucks per drawing, all proceeds donated to Hearthside Books in honor of Independent Bookstore Day!

Also available exclusively at Hearthside Books are Vera Brosgol’s “Be Prepared” Summer Reading Survival Prints!

11am – 12pm ~ Making Children’s Books
w/ Jon Klassen, Andy Runton & Michaela Goade
Caldecott Medal recipient, Jon Klassen will lead a discussion on making children’s books. Klassen will be joined by Andy Runton, creator of “Owly” and Juneau illustrator Michaela Goade.

12pm – 1pm ~ Art Imitates Life w/ Raina Telgemeier & Vera Brosgol
Raina and Vera have both created excellent autobiographical graphic novels about their childhood experiences, come learn about their work and the art of sharing a personal experiences & stories. Raina is the author of “Smile” and “Ghosts.” Vera is the author of “Be Prepared” and “Anya’s Ghost.”

1pm – 2pm ~ Tallships and Longbows w/ Lucy Bellwood & Ben Hatke
Lucy Bellwood is an adventure cartoonist who writes about tall ships and personal demons. Ben Hatke is a cartoonist adventurer known for “Zita the Spacegirl” and “Mighty Jack”

2pm – 3pm ~ Puppets and Skeletons w/ Georgina Hayns & Jeremy Spake
Georgina Hayns & Jeremy Spake created puppets for the films, “Coraline,” “Paranorman,” “Box Trolls,” and “Kubo and the Two Strings.” Hear about their work and learn what goes into making such beautiful and complex puppets.

3pm – 4pm ~ Comics for Social Change w/ Molly Ostertag & C. Spike Trotman
Spike Trotman is the mightiest publisher of comics in the Midwest, she has raised over a million dollars on Kickstarter. Molly Ostertag is the author of Witch Boy and illustrator of Strong Female Protagonist.

4pm – 5pm ~ Ukulele Jam w/ Molly Lewis

Artist Hangouts @ KTOO Conference Room

11am – 12pm ~ Stop Motion Animation w/ Dik Pose & Tony Cliff
Come mess around with stop motion animation and learn some basics from Tony & Dik who both have experience working in the animation industry.

12pm – 1pm ~ Drawing Hangout w/ Molly Ostertag & Dylan Meconis
Come hangout and draw! Or peek over the shoulders of some professional artists and learn about their approach. All ages!

1pm – 2pm ~ Publishing Chat w/ C. Spike Trotman, David Malki! & Anne Bean
Ever wondered how the various aspects of the publishing industry work? This is a great group to chat with and learn from. Malki! is an expert designer and self publisher, Anne Bean works with Emerald Comics Distro to wholesale indie comics, and Spike is the largest comics publisher in Chicago and has raised over a million bucks on Kickstarter.

2pm – 3pm ~ Songwriting w/ Marian Call, Molly Lewis & Seth Boyer
Work with these accomplished musicians to write a song from scratch and learn a bit about their approach to music in the process.

3pm – 4pm ~ Drawing Hangout w/ Scott C. & Ben Hatke
Come hangout and draw! Or peek over the shoulders of some professional artists and learn about their approach. All ages!

4pm – 5pm ~ Writing Time w/ Ryan North & Molly Muldoon
Come hangout and write! Ryan & Molly will talk about their process, their work and maybe lead some little writing exercises. It’s casual. A great chance to ask questions of these comics authors about the art of writing for non-motion pictures.

Story Time @ The Juneau Public Library – 292 Marine Way

Join us at the Library as some of our guest artists read from one of their own books or one of their favorite classics. All ages are most welcome.

12:30pm – 1:00pm ~ Story Time w/ Jon Klassen
Jon is the author and illustrator of “I Want My Hat Back,” “This Is Not My Hat” and “We Found A Hat.” He has also illustrated for Mac Barnett & Lemony Snicket. His work has earned him a Caldecott medal!

1:15pm – 1:45pm ~ Story Time w/ Scott Campbell
Author & illustrator of the most excellent “Hug Machine.” Also illustrator of “If Dogs Run Free,” “East Dragon, West Dragon,” and “Zombie in Love”

2:00pm – 2:30pm ~ Story Time w/ Vera Brosgol
Vera is the author and illustrator of “Leave me Alone,” for which she received a Caldecott honor.
