Thursday, April 25th

11am — Storytime w/ Michaela Goade @ Douglas Public Library
Michaela Goade is a children’s book illustrator from southeast Alaska whose work includes “Encounter,” “How Devil’s Club Came to Be,” and “Let’s Go! A Harvest Story.”

6pm – 7pm — “How to Invent Everything” @ Downtown Public Library
As part of Science on Screen series, Ryan North will discuss his book which serves as a guide for the stranded time traveler. Learn to invent all of our modern conveniences from first principles. It’s the science of inventing everything! This is part of Science on Screen and is paired with a free screening of The Fountain at 7pm.

6pm – 9pm — Jigsaw Puzzle Making Workshop @ Juneau Makerspace
Chris Yates makes incredible puzzles, and now, so can you! Space is limited so register soon at the Alaska Robotics Gallery (907) 523-0303 – $25 materials fee or pay-as-you-can.

5:30pm – 7:00pm — Zine Making Workshop @ Douglas Public Library
The Giant Rat teaches zine making for all ages. A zine is a tiny, self-published work of art.

Friday, April 26th

School Visits
Visiting artists will be making appearances in over forty classrooms and assemblies at schools all over Juneau. Contact your librarian or art teacher for more information.

Mini-Con Kickoff Event @ Mendenhall Library
5pm Snacks & 6pm Variety Show
Join us at the Mendenhall Valley Library as we introduce several of our visiting guests through a musical variety show. The family friendly event features short presentations, readings and music. It’s a delight.

Making Picture Books @ Alaska State Museum

Alaskan authors & illustrators will be leading a multi-part workshop on making picture books. Drop into a single session or stay for the whole thing!

12pm – 1pm ~ Self Publishing Picture Books
w/ Inari Kylanen & Lee Post
Learn how to assemble a book from scratch. Inari and Lee will teach participants how to create a book dummy that participants can fill in with text and illustrations.

1pm – 2pm ~ Writing Picture Books
w/ Hannah Lindoff
Hannah will teach participants how to turn an idea into a story meant to be illustrated by yourself or someone else.

2pm – 3pm ~ Illustrating Picture Books

Lucas & Michaela teach participants how to turn words into images and design characters that can carry a story

11am – 12pm ~ Lucy Bellwood on Jeanne Baret
Lucy Bellwood, adventure cartoonist, shares the story of Jeanne Baret, the first woman to circumnavigate the globe! Defying the conventions of 1740s France, Baret escaped her impoverished life and signed aboard a French botanical voyage disguised as a man, spending the next three years circling the globe as a botanist’s assistant. In that time she collected over six THOUSAND specimens, including the now-well-known bougainvillea vine

12pm – 1pm ~ Baby-Sitters Club Super Secret Club Meeting
Raina Telgemeier and Gale Galligan have both worked on the Baby-Sitters Club graphic novel series and at this super secret club meeting they’ll share their stories, artwork and maybe even a few tidbits about the next novel in the series. Top secret.

1pm – 2pm ~ Tillie Walden
Tillie Walden has published six graphic novels, including Spinning, a memoir about her days as a competitive ice-skater, which received critically acclaimed reviews from Publishers Weekly, Kirkus, The Guardian and the AVClub. She has won the prestigious Ignatz Awards and an Eisner award for her work. Her most recent book On a Sunbeam came out in October 2018

2pm – 3pm ~ Jen Wang
Jen Wang is a cartoonist and illustrator. Jen co-authored the New York Times Bestselling graphic novel In Real Life. She is also the author and illustrator of Koko Be Good and The Prince and the Dressmaker.

3pm – 4pm ~ Kazu Kibuishi
Kazu Kibuishi is the author and illustrator of the Amulet graphic novel series. He is also the cover artist of the Harry Potter 15th anniversary edition paperbacks and served as editor and art director of the Flight and Explorer comic anthologies. Come hang out with Kazu and learn more about his work!

Make some awesome little stop motion animations! Dik Pose is a storyboard artist who has worked on episodes of Big Mouth and Disenchantment.
